Marble Goddess

Loose the bonds which hold you
To my memory,
She said.

Turn away from the sight that blinds you
With fire in your eyes
From crying.

I don't want to hear what you
Don't want to say,
She said.

Hold the tongue that would leave you
With nothing else
To hold.

She was only the last shadow I saw
When I awoke from the dream
Of spring fed gardens
And starry skies,
She said.

I listened until the sunbeams crossed my chest
Then closed the windowshades and ran back
Into her effortlessly upraised arms
And kissed the moonlit coolness
Of her royal white lips.

And the stone spoke again.
